Conclusion reached, now into action mode

This would be me, on a cold and windy day, taking a walk in "dither mode" -- the reign of confusion -- that ensued between our long consultation with my local oncologist on Tuesday and having the Mayo date moved up once again, confirmed at last just this morning.

Some surprisingly nasty news on Tuesday and our oncologist's reluctance to delay the start of chemo any longer than necessary put us in the awkward position of trying to decide if we'd drop the Mayo idea and get started with treatment -- or stand firm with seeing Mayo and to hell with losing a couple of weeks before beginning treatment.

Kudo's to my surgeon for making a call to Mayo yesterday and getting my visit there moved up yet another week (now June 1), putting my mind a bit more at ease about the delay and yet getting all the info we can gather before launching into chemo phase.

It seems that being labeled Stage 4 and having had all the bad experiences I had with the chemo regimen used last time (2007), I qualify for a new treatment that claims to be more effective and far less hard to take. As Katy put it so well in an email to me this morning, "Ding, ding, ding! You win the chemo lottery!"

Lots of paperwork to gather today, as it is the only "working" day between now and our departure for Rochester Tuesday morning. I'm outta here....

  1. Mary, it's one helluva journey you're on. Your indomitable spirit and frankness is such an inspiration to all of us who are directly or peripherally on this trek with you. In return I hope it bolsters your strength to know we're right along side you every step of the way. Sounds too much like a Hallmark card... But sincerely, thank you for sharing with all of us who care so much about you.

Agreeing with another post; such an interesting and full journey this has been for you Mary and in such a short amount of time. Full of twists, detours, "what's around that damn corner" and hopefully, soon to be a bit downhill coasting ...whatever that may mean for you.
    As for the photo posted...OMG!
    WE LOVE IT!
And will be thinking of you both as this week unfolds.
